Muscle Spasm

Muscle spasms are involuntary muscle contractions involving one or more muscles, usually without warning. Muscle spasms are also known as muscle cramps or charley horses. 

Muscle Spasm Causes:

There are many reasons as to why our muscles may spasm, like; 

  • Overexertion of the muscle, 
  • Insufficient warmup before exercises, 
  • Dehydration, 
  • Muscle fatigue, 
  • Magnesium and/or potassium deficiency
  • Poor blood circulation. 

Muscle Spasm Symptoms:

  • Sudden, sharp pain
  • Hard lump 
  • Discomfort in muscle 

Muscle Spasm Treatment:

A few quick treatments to do when you are experiencing a muscle spasm is to stretch and/or massage. 

Muscle Spasm Prevention:

To help prevent a muscle spasm you can eat foods high in vitamins, magnesium and calcium. Always staying hydrated and warming up properly before exercise are great ways to reduce the risk of cramps as well. The spams usually go away within minutes, but if they occur often and with no reason, you should speak with you doctor. 

  • Patient avoided hip surgery.

  • Patient avoided back surgery.

  • This newborn came in unable to move his neck from the side position. He suffered from torticollis, severe neck and back spasms. After just 1 ASTR treatment, he had complete range of motion.

  • Patient came in unable to move his neck from the side position. After 3 ASTR treatments, he regained full range of motion.

  • This young gymnast came in unable to do the splits. After just 1 ASTR treatment, she had full range of motion.
