The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) or Jaw Joint connects the mandibular (lower jaw) to the temporal bone in the head. The jaw joints enable us to chew, talk, and yawn. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD),TMJ disorders are a group of several conditions that results in jaw joint pain and dysfunction in the jaw movement.
TMJ Disorders Risk Factors:

- Teeth clenching or grinding
- Poor posture
Common Conditions of TMJ Disorders:
These are the most common conditions of TMJ disorders
- Myofasical pain that causes pain in the muscle that controls the jaw movement.
- Derangement of the joint such as dislocated jaw, displaced disc, or condyle injury
- Arthritis of the Temopromandibular joint
It is common that the person who suffers from TMJ disorders has one or more of the above conditions. Injury to the temporomandibular joint or muscles of the neck and head can cause TMD. Stress may cause the individual to experience tightness in the jaw and facial muscles.
TMJ Disorders Symptoms:
These are some of the common symptoms of TMD
- Limited mouth opening motion
- Pain or tenderness of the face, jaw joint, neck , and or around the ear when chewing, talking or opening the mouth wide
- Jaw (TMJ) clicking, locking, or popping
- Difficulty with chewing
- Sometimes experience ear pain/ sensation of fullness/ tennitus
- Other symptoms could include: headaches, neck pain, earaches, ringing in the ears, toothaches
Most Reliant TMJ clients experience significant pain relief within their first session and continue treatment in order to be discharged as fully functional within a few weeks.
